254 Bench | 2020

The origin of the 254 Bench came from finding a 50-year-old 14’ redwood beam in the rafters of a friend’s Palo Alto home. It was going to the dump if I didn’t take it, so I did. Since the wood was so pretty, I challenged myself to utilize as much of the material as possible. Inspired by Japanese minimalist design, the frame and top fit together like two puzzle pieces.

While the first 254 Bench was made from redwood, the one pictured on this page features solid walnut. The graphic, geometric pieces contrast the intense graining on the main surface.
