Scope
Renovation of the iconic 2-story commercial structure in Summerland, California and the design of a custom front-facing pergola over the entry deck (unrealized)
Role
Client Project Manager, Design
The intent behind the custom pergola was to be a version of the original slatted “eyebrow” that extends to the edge of the entry deck. It was designed to use similar detailing as the eyebrow, structural members, and hardware consistent with the building, and integrate original elements such as the steel trellis hangers and oversized gooseneck light fixtures. Suspended sunshades complete the space by providing shaded coverage to the deck and dappled light through the large sliding doors. Decorative steel railings between the posts are reminiscent of the balusters of the main interior stair
